Meet Polly, she's a rescue Goat who lives at a sanctuary for disabled baby Goats. Her Foster Mom, Leanne, quit her day job to set up the sanctuary and dedicate her time to helping disabled baby Goats, you can read the inspiring article Woman Quits Her Job To Rescue Baby Goats.
Sweet little Polly has a number of medical conditions so she needs round the clock care. She's blind, has neurological problems that affect her eating ability and is severely underweight for her age. She also suffers from anxiety.
Polly is quite attached to Leanne so if she can't find her she will run frantic around the house trying to see where she is.
Leanne told The Dodo that Polly has some weird habits which could be linked to her anxiety issues. "She'll find a corner of a wall in the house, and she'll just start sucking on the wall, so all the corners in our house have these little suck marks from her mouth."
One Halloween Leanne went shopping for some costumes for her Goats in the kids section at Marshalls when she found a cute Duck suit, when she got home she put it on Polly and something amazing happened.
Polly went from frantic to calm in a matter of seconds.
There's something about the Duck costume that Polly finds calming, she zones out and closes her eyes.
One time Leanne had to nip to the shop but couldn't leave Polly home alone so she decided to put the costume on and take her along, Polly was as good as gold and zoned out looking very relaxed in the shopping cart.
Polly will soon outgrow her duck costume so Leanne is a little regretful that she didn't buy the larger size at the store. Polly has tried other costumes but they don't seem to have as much effect as the Duck costume.
When a handicapped rescue Goat called Pocket came to the sanctary Leanne placed him onto Polly's back and she became very calm and chilled.
Leanne stated "I've noticed that anytime he's lying next to her, she just gets calm. I've never seen her do that with another goat here."
Eventually when Polly and Pocket move outside there is hope they will be best friends so Polly won't need her Duck costume as Pocket will be there for support.
