Volunteer’s in North India at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center are doing an amazing thing, they’re knitting huge jumpers for the rescued Elephants to protect them from the cold weather. Winter’s can be pretty chilly and the cold weather can take a toll on the previously abused elephants so these giant knitted blankets provide warmth for these beautiful creatures.
Co-founder Kartick Satyanarayan stated “It is important to keep our elephants protected from the bitter cold during this extreme winter, as they are weak and vulnerable having suffered so much abuse making them susceptible to ailments such as pneumonia,”
Kartick Satyanarayan said: ‘We work hard to give these elephants a life of dignity and protection while we also provide them ongoing treatment and care"
Many of the elephants have previously suffered from chronic neglect and wicked beatings, the sanctuary provides a new life and a brighter future.
The volunteers spend hours creating these stylish blankets which take around 4 weeks to complete.
The evenings in North India can reach freezing point which is even too cold for the Elephants thick skin so the knitted blankets provide comfort and warmth.
These rescued Elephants are very happy with their new blankets
Now doesn't that bring a tear to your eye?
